Definition According to Wikipedia “A hallucination, in the broadest sense, is a perception in the absence of a stimulus. In a stricter sense, hallucinations are defined as perceptions in a conscious and awake state in the absence of external stimuli which have qualities of real perception, in that they are vivid, substantial, and located in external objective space."
Other definitions include: “Hallucinations are false or distorted sensory experiences that appear to be real perceptions.”
- These sensory experiences are caused usually by the mind, and can be seen, heard, felt, and even smelled or tasted.

From this quote you can see that Sassoon has clearly had some bad experiences in the war that are carrying into his everyday life.
